Family in the HILLS

BLOG

Why did we choose Nathuakhan ?

Like many other Delhites , I always wanted to own a cottage on a hill overlooking the valley , has a view and weather to boot. Well as and when we used to visit a hill station this felling of ownership always used to cramp up, oh I don't want to go back to heat, humidity and pollution but it doesn't happen your way does it, luckily sometimes it does. In one of those free times here we just took off to see some sites, starting from Bhimtal none clicked , some were too distant from view , roads and some well too pricy. Being from interior design trade my eye for imaginative aesthetics also was doing its bit maybe in our actions and talks when Ravi our estate consultant says , "Bhiya ek jagah to hai aap ke taste ki but hai kuch door" and the way he described it , we had to go there. Picturesque drive through fruit bowls of Uttrakhand brought us to the sleepy but alert village of Nathuakhan and left turn upwards and lo and behold we are standing right next to the road facing the majestic Himalayas in front and Suyalgar valley below. Right next to reserve forests this place was epitome of silence. It was love at first sight. Pristine grandeur at its best....it had to be my family in the HILLS at Nathuakhan

Life in Delhi was at static pace . projects to design offices , residences and ‚Äčother brick and mortar livelihoods were coming and going,,,, ahem ! everyday scenario and what do we do then like good city bred , we take a holiday and where ,,,,, right again a holiday..in the hills and then it happened.
Note a combo of Army schooling... Taj hotel management training and design architecture , is a heady cocktail of in grown disciplined aesthetic creative sense which does make a difference. Lo and behold we are at Hartola road off Nathuakhan overlooking orchards of plums , pears and apples in the valley and facing the peaks of Himalayas.
WOW ! Reserve forest on one side with wild wild game... man , can you imagine a place where you need all six senses to come alive.... and was born the idea and concept of MY SPACE.
Experience the sound of Silence was coined at the site and really it is true , spot different varieties of birds wearing colorful jackets and sporting variety of vocals.... average temp of 22 with life still travelling at tring tring speed , this was the place where we ( me and cousin Amar invested.. our future ).
And here at Hartola we invite you to FAMILY IN THE HILLS , a experience of laid back pristine holiday nestled in luxurious Maharajah camps overlooking the mighty Himalayas while enjoying Gourmet meals and later going on mountain cycling or foot treks while rest of you plays snooker , table tennis or chess while children drool over Xbox and puzzles.
The besties don t reflect the sweat , blood , camaraderie and fellowship that has brought this dream alive, without doubt it is a mountainous task to stitch together a dwelling in a land so myriad and different from what has been experienced with culture , means , language and expression all so transparent that it frightens you for...is it still there..... it is.
NO POLLUTION ! NO NOISE ! NO CROWDS ! NO SWEAT !
YES WEATHER ! YES LIFE ! YES BINGS ! YES I WANT TO LIVE AGAIN !!!

he location at Hartola Road , Nathuakhan no doubt was splendid with continuous flowing views , melancholy of birds and pure fragrance of nature but it was still a undulated , bloated at places with wild bushes stretched as a land.
Always as a typical urban with more dreams and less time , it always remained a task to think some concrete as a structure on it and then after all the deliberations we dropped anchor at the location and planned. Never in favour of making a typical brick and mortar structure , we envisaged to pin some most comfortable and luxurious camps for that naturally natural nature feeling.
This is where you come to terms with the aura of working in a simple rural atmosphere where even your simplest of actions are not conceived easily making even the lightest work seem very heavy. At a place where even a nail has to be brought from 60 kms or 2 hour down , construction is the most tedious and ultra difficult jobs here.
The land had to be leveled and the JCB calculated their fare in hours starting at base and ending there as well...phew.. constructing a stone retaining wall and the platforms for the camps were the most time consuming as well as expensive at a place where water and stones are virtually non existent. Here the help of our neighbor and now my soulmate Dipuda is worth mentioning. There are some who are still living in that distant age where there commitment and word is the honor and no amount of money can shake this belief. We experienced it and this only brought us closer to mankind and fellow humans. Well starting from the end of Nov 2015 and braving icy winters here and with the blessings of the almighty,we were able to welcome you all in the first week of June 2016. Our honest hard work coupled with fierce determination has resulted in a pristine and comfortable cottage camp called FAMILY IN THE HILLS .
